Meet Our Pastor: Bishop Melvin Brown A Man of Faith and Service

Bishop Melvin Brown is the founder and Senior Pastor of My Father’s House Ministry Disciples of Christ (DOC) with a focus on “Reclaiming the City for Christ” through God’s word and commitment to service. Bishop Brown is a visionary and spiritual shepherd to many people within the Tri-County Area and believes that awareness through education is a key component to spiritual growth.

He is also the founder of The Bread of Life Foundation. This foundation is an avenue for the church to reach and meet the social, spiritual and economical needs of people within and outside of the church congregation and immediate community.

Bishop Melvin Brown was born on January 20, 1956 to the late James and Daisy Belle Brown of Ridgeville, SC. Bishop Brown began his faith walk at an early age in Poplar Hill Christian Church DOC, in Cross, SC working with the Sunday School Department and later became the Sunday School Superintendent. His work at Poplar Hill progressed to serving on the choir, being choir president, president of the Christian Men Fellowship and later becoming an ordained Deacon.

In 1984, Bishop Brown accepted his call to ministry with Zion Pilgrim Christian Church of Ridgeville, SC in an associate minister’s position. He later became the Senior Pastor and served faithfully with fire and passion for 19 years. Bishop Brown also served as Senior Pastor of New Grove Hall Christian Church in Summerville, SC for four years with the same passion.

Desiring to please God by serving his congregation more efficiently, Bishop Brown graduated from Morris College Extension School of Religion in 1987 with an associate’s degree in Theological Studies. He later received his Bachelor of Arts in Theological Studies from Cummins Theological Seminary. He continues to undergird his faith walk through his studies at the Institute for African-American Faith & Life Clergy Institute at Hampton University Theological Seminary. He also attends ministerial retreats and seminars.

Bishop Brown was married to the late Jean Brown for 44 years. He is currently married to Dr. LuVara Prudhomme. He is the proud Father of three beautiful daughters Kinese, Felicia, and Shequina, one bonus daughter, Trikarri (Kareem), and four amazing grandchildren Esenik, Tyson, Amir, Lauren and the late Tyquan (who God called home to be an Angel.)
